CASE STUDY: IDAHO OFFICE OF DRUG POLICY

ENGAGING YOUTH IN STATEWIDE & LOCAL DRUG-PREVENTION ADVOCACY

Situation

Leadership for the Office of Drug Policy (ODP) in the state of Idaho solicited a proposal from The Core Project to coordinate all aspects of a youth prevention conference for youth-serving drug-prevention coalitions across the state. The ODP had access to grant funding to provide effective, engaging experiences for young people in Idaho but needed inspiration and support in creating an event that would engage students in creating a focus and action plan for their unique community needs.

Solution

After thorough consultation and discovery, the Core Project created and presented 2 days of custom programming including large and small group experiences, guest speakers and social activities for 53 students and adults. The Core Project managed promotion and registration, coordinated on-site logistics including meeting preparation, accommodations, and meals and designed and printed all conference materials.

Outcomes

Citing authenticity, relationship and connection, one young man shared that his experience at the Idaho Youth Impact Conference was the “best experience I had ever had” despite having participated in seven different events as a middle and high school student traveling to all corners of the country.

The partnership between the Office of Drug Policy and the Core Project allowed leadership to thoughtfully and efficiently steward resources in such a way that maximized impact.
